A note from Pillr

We make Pillr, so this is not an independent review. This page explains how we compare Dosecast with Pillr for ADHD medication tracking and flexible reminder routines.

Quick answer

Choose Pillr if ADHD medication is the main routine you want to track and you want reminders, quick taken or skipped history, estimated focus windows, reflections, refill planning, exports, and appointment notes in one local-first app.

Choose Dosecast if your priority is flexible reminder timing, including schedules counted from the last recorded dose, plus postpone actions, Android or Amazon device support, or paid cross-device and multi-person tools.

Both can be downloaded free and both reserve some features for paid options. The practical choice is whether you need an ADHD-focused record around each dose or broad schedule flexibility across more devices.

Who this comparison is for

This comparison is for someone choosing between two medication trackers when ADHD follow-through, interval reminders, dose history, refills, device support, appointment preparation, or privacy will decide the fit.

It is not a guide to choosing medication, changing a dose, setting medical timing, or deciding what to do after a missed dose.

Key differences

Pillr is ADHD-routine led. It is built around quick taken or skipped records, an estimated Focus Timeline, structured reflections, pill counts, history exports, and appointment preparation.

Dosecast is schedule-flexibility led. Its current feature guide lists daily, weekly, monthly, every-few-days, and last-dose-based interval reminders, plus backup reminders and flexible postponing.

The other major difference is device and plan structure. Pillr is Apple-focused and keeps its medication record local by default. Dosecast supports Apple, Android, and Amazon devices, while detailed history, refills, multi-person records, and CloudSync are listed under its paid Pro edition.

Detailed comparison by use case

If ADHD medication follow-through is the main job

Pillr is the clearer fit when the reminder is only one part of the record. The dose action, estimated focus window, reflection, pill supply, history, and appointment notes can be reviewed together.

This can help when you need to check what happened rather than rely on memory. For a wider guide to the decision, see what to look for in an ADHD medication reminder app.

If your prescribed schedule needs more flexibility

Dosecast's strongest distinction is schedule control. It lists daily, weekly, monthly, every-few-days, and interval reminders counted from the last recorded dose. It also supports taking a scheduled dose early, postponing a reminder, and adding a backup reminder.

Those controls should still follow instructions from your clinician. An app can organise a prescribed routine, but it should not decide how many hours to leave between doses.

If dose history or refills matter

Pillr supports taken and skipped records, notes, actual logged times, decimal pill use, low-stock thresholds, refill reminders, and CSV or PDF history export.

Dosecast's free edition lists late dose logging and skipping. Its paid Pro edition lists detailed taken, skipped, postponed, late, and missed history, emailed history, quantity tracking, and refill alerts. The current edition guide is the best place to recheck those boundaries.

If device choice or family records matter

Dosecast may fit better when Android or Amazon support is essential. Its Pro CloudSync service is designed to keep medication data and reminders across Apple, Android, and Amazon devices.

Dosecast also lists multi-person records for family members or pets. That is not the same as a remote caregiver alert system, so check the exact sharing and access workflow before choosing it for someone else's medication routine.

If privacy and account setup matter

Pillr has no Pillr account. Medication records and checked recovery copies stay on the iPhone; you can choose a checked copy to restore in Settings. Pillr does not offer cloud backup or syncing. The Pillr privacy page explains optional analytics and online features separately.

Dosecast says its free edition does not require registration. Its current privacy policy describes non-identifiable usage data, while Pro CloudSync sends medication data through Dosecast's cross-device service. Store disclosures use different levels of detail, so read the current policy and store page together.

Where Pillr fits better

  • ADHD medication is the main routine you want to track.
  • You want estimated focus windows and structured post-dose reflections.
  • You want a dedicated as-needed Cabinet flow.
  • You want CSV or PDF history exports and a dedicated appointment record.

Where Dosecast fits better

  • You need reminders counted from the last recorded dose.
  • You want Android or Amazon device support.
  • You want paid cross-device sync across different platforms.
  • You want multiple people or pets organised in one medication tracker.

Why Pillr is a strong fit for ADHD medication tracking

Pillr is strongest when ADHD medication follow-through is the problem to solve. It keeps the reminder, completed action, focus-window estimate, reflection, refill status, medication history, and appointment preparation close together without requiring a Pillr account.

It does not tell you what medication to take, what dose to take, or how to respond to missed doses or side effects. It helps you organise a clearer record for your own review and for conversations with a qualified healthcare professional.

What to verify before choosing

  • Whether the app supports your exact prescribed schedule and as-needed workflow.
  • How taken, skipped, late, postponed, missed, and unrecorded doses appear in history.
  • Which reminder, history, refill, multi-person, and sync features need a paid option.
  • Whether Apple-only use is enough or Android or Amazon support is essential.
  • Whether the export or email format contains the fields you need for appointments.
  • How local storage, cloud sync, analytics, deletion, and subscription handling work.
